September 03: Non-bailable warrants have been issued against
a software engineer couple hailing from the city, presently
residing in the US, by a local court in the city. The woman
allegedly cheated her husband by marrying again without obtaining
a divorce.
According
to the police, the woman Vijaya Lakshmi, was married to one
Venkata Krishna in October 2000. Ten days after marriage,
Vijaya Lakshmi left for the US. Due to some Vijaya Lakshmi
applied for a divorce in June 2001 but the petition was dismissed
by a court.
Without
obtaining the divorce, Vijaya Lakshmi reportedly got married
to N Prabhakar Rao, also a software engineer in the US, in
2002.
Venkata
Krishna filed a case against Vijaya Lakshmi, Prabhakar Rao
and his father-in-law Krishna Rao alleging that they had spoilt
his life and also sought maintenance, Chandanagar police sub-inspector
B Anji Reddy said.
A court
issued a NBW two months back to the trio but they managed
to get a stay order from a higher court which asked the police
not to effect the arrest without filing a charge-sheet and
conducting proper investigation.
Meanwhile,
Venkata Krishna gathered enough evidence to show that his
wife married another person without divorcing him. "There
are property documents belonging to Vijaya Lakshmi which were
mortgaged in the US. In those documents, Vijaya Lakshmi identified
herself as wife of Prabhakar Rao," Anji Reddy said.
Similarly,
Vijaya Lakshmi also purchased land in Khammam where she identified
herself as the wife of Prabhakar Rao, the SI said.
Considering
these documents, a local court issued a NBW against the three
yesterday. The NBW was executed today and Krishna Rao was
arrested from Khammam and produced before the court.
"We
have to complete formalities to bring the couple back to the
country to execute the NBW. It may take sometime but they
will be recalled through proper channel and arrested,"
Anji Reddy said.
